CTVC x NYCW 2026!

It’s somehow August, and that means that we can start to feel the New York Climate Week magic in the air.

NYCW is technically a one-week gathering for climate professionals. In practice, it's a city-wide sprint: panels stacked back to back, happy hours starting at 4pm, dinners you agreed to weeks before now somehow all on the same Tuesday.

Last year had roughly 100,000 attendees and around 1,000 official events. But the official schedule is enormous and not entirely useful. The best conversations usually happen at the side events where LPs and founders can have a quiet second to chat. But getting into them has always required insider knowledge, a good network, or a lot of trial and error.

So we built this CTVC NYCW tracker, again!

We’ve got the CTVC NYCW 2026 Events Tracker now live — our free list of climate tech events running the week of September 20 in New York, curated by Currence and Planeteer. We filtered out the corporate sustainability galas and the policymaker speeches, so you only see the gatherings designed for climate tech investors, founders, and operators.

How it works

This year we're running the tracker as a Luma calendar, which makes it easier to browse and filter. Here's how it works:

📣 Submit your events! Hosting something that belongs on the list? Submit it directly via the calendar! This guide will only get richer over time as more events are added.

🗓️ Browse by date. The full week of September 20 is laid out chronologically.

🗺️ Explore the map. Use the map view to see where events are clustered across the city to plan your routes.

🏷️ Filter by tags. Cut straight to what you're after —

  • Themes: data centers, DERS, deeptech, water and more!
  • Formats: panels, demos, happy hours, networking, etc.
  • Neighborhoods: use this and map view to plan your routes
  • Closer to the date we'll tag where Currence & Planeteer will be hosting & attending — we'd love to see you there!

Notes & tips: Only public Luma events are visible via the calendar. Not using Luma? Events on external platforms can be added! Use tags to make your event easy to find. We'll continue to review submissions on a rolling basis all the way up until Climate Week.

We’ll continue to update the tracker as new events get announced — the best ones tend to come in late — so bookmark it and check back closer to the week. And send it to your portfolio companies, your LPs, your co-investors. If all the best people use it, we’ll get all the best events.

Reading List

🤖 The US banned foreign-made power inverters & humanoid robots, targeting China on national security grounds. [Link]

Power Inverters, critical for the data center and grid buildout, put increased pressure on US supply chains and further stretch timelines for transmission upgrades.

🔋 Varta filed for self-administered insolvency after losing its Apple AirPods battery supply contract, the latest European battery manufacturer to fall, following Morrow's bankruptcy earlier this year. [Link, Link]

Morrow was a startup that never reached scale. However, Varta is a 138-year-old incumbent that lost its main customer. Following the trend, the contract went to China. Their manufacturing edge is now extending into precision consumer electronics, the high-margin niche where European makers were previously safe.

Germany opened a 475MW renewables innovation tender and a 300MW biomethane auction, targeting next-generation renewable technologies and biomethane production capacity. [Link, Link, Link]

Biomethane is an expensive way to make power, but it's domestic and runs through existing gas infrastructure. This is a strong backup to Germany’s large wind and solar generation capacity.

New Jersey proposes VPP integration into the grid statewide. [Link]

Notable: NJ sits in PJM, where the capacity crunch is most severe and where Google/Voltus just partnered on demand response and accredited capacity. A state-level VPP framework adds policy to the commercial playbook.

🔌 Substations are getting smaller and smarter. [Link]

Part of a broader trend of utilities getting creative under load growth pressure. Electrification is forcing more MW through the same physical footprint, and territories that were built around gas, like SoCal Edison's, are now electrifying fast enough that compact, higher-density substation design is becoming necessary.

💨 Non-Microsoft buyers are picking up the carbon removal market's slack. ClimeFi's Q2 2026 CDR market review found non-Microsoft carbon removal commitments up 136% year-over-year, even as Microsoft kept purchasing paused, but volume is still lower. [Link]

🔩 Japanese steel giant, JFE Steel, just produced the country’s first green hydrogen-reduced iron. [Link]

🌱 From our friends at Climatebase: their first-ever Job Seeker Outcomes Report is out. Fellows are twice as likely to work in climate after the program, with 1,110+ alumni now across 250+ climate organizations, and 97% saying it helped them reach their goals. [Link]

Opportunities & Events

📅 SST Day 2026: Join Amperesand on November 17th at its Reno Factory for the first dedicated industry event for medium voltage solid-state transformers (MV SSTs). Expect live product demos, next-gen manufacturing, and C-suite discussions on accelerating the next era of energy infrastructure.
